The police have arrested 11 persons in connection with the forced removal of a number of families from Gravel Heights in St. Catherine.

At least 40 people fled their homes after receiving threats from men aligned to two rival gangs in Spanish Town.

The commanding officer for the St Catherine North Police, Superintendent Assan Thompson, said the brother of one of two men believed to be responsible for the death threats is among those arrested.

He said the police and military personnel are maintaining a strong presence in Gravel Heights as well as in adjoining communities.

Superintendent Thompson said at least eight persons have returned to their houses since the exodus on Sunday.

He said no one from the community has been harmed over the last three days.
