The ministry of health has disclosed that it will be bringing a team of experts in the country to examine and correct problems in the water treatment system at the Katie Hoo Haemodialysus Centre at the Spanish Town hospital.

The ministry of health said this is in an effort to speed up access to kidney dialysis at the facility.

Representatives from Renal Dynamics, a Florida based team are expected in the island tomorrow.

The disclosure was made yesterday, as the health minister Rudyard Spencer met with managers at the Spanish Town hospital and representatives from the South East Regional Authority.

Mr. Spencer said the ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that the facility becomes operational within weeks.

He said the centre is crucial to improving access to dialysis service for persons with renal failure in the parish of St. Catherine and surrounding areas.

At present, renal care is only offered at the Kingston Public Hospital, University Hospital of the West Indies and the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Mr. Spencer said the Katie Hoo Haemodialysis Centre would begin to accept patients, as soon as the water system used in the dialysis process meets the necessary requirement.
