Road fatalities up to 325
The gruesome traffic accident that left 14 people dead on Friday night has brought the number of persons killed on the roadways since the start of the year to 325.
This surpasses the governments target figure, as the government had said it would try to keep road fatalities below 300 for 2008.
Head of the Police Traffic Division Deputy Superintendent Claude Reynolds is appealing to motorists to develop better driving habits.
He’s also urging commuters to be especially careful on the roads during the Christmas season.
The police are yet to locate the driver of the truck involved in Friday’s fatal crash.
He is said to have fled the scene after the incident.
The truck reportedly plunged into the Rio Grande Valley while transporting vendors and other persons to Kingston.
Five persons who were injured in the crash remain in hospital.
