The Customs Department said it seized more than US$500,000 at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James on Christmas Day.

Three passengers were reportedly stopped and searched and the money found.

The Department said the money was not declared so it was taken from the passengers under the Proceed of Crimes Act and handed over to the state.

Customs officials say more than $1.7 million has been seized and handed over to the Crown since June 1, 2008.
