WINDALCO suspends mining operations

The NWU president is reporting that the other major alumina producer WINDALCO has suspended mining operations for 11 days.
The cut comes as the global economic crouch worsens.
Mr Morrison said WINDALCO was forced to stop mining because the bauxite and alumina storage levels at Ewarton are above the desired amount.
This suspension of mining at WINDALCO comes only weeks after the company announced that it was cutting production by 35 percent.
The company has also sent home more than 70 employees.
