NEW ID Parade launched
The police high command has expressed confidence in the capabilities of its new video identification system, which was launched today.
The new video identification system is to be in place within two weeks.
The system will allow the police to pre-record photographs of persons, which will then be mixed with the actual photo of a suspect and placed on a compact disc for witnesses to identify.
Head of the Major Investigation Task Force Assistant Commissioner of police, Les Green said the system should guarantee fair treatment of the suspect.
ACP Green said the integrity of the new video identification system is also guaranteed. He said there are enough support systems in Jamaican to ensure the effectiveness of the system.
ACP Green is also appealing to persons wishing to be a part of the video identification system image database to visit the Central police station in Downtown Kingston.
He said the police have collected more than 20 thousand images.
ACP Green said the police are seeking Rastafarians and persons with unusual facial appearances including scars.
The video identification system is a contribution to the force by the US and UK governments.
The US has donated cameras and digital recording equipment valued at 13 point 4 million dollars.
