Several roads in St. Mary and Portland are now blocked as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

The National Works Agency (NWA) says some sections of the town of Port Maria in St. Mary are now under water.

Motorists travelling between Annotto Bay and Ocho Rios, St. Ann are being advised to use Cox Street as Main Street is flooded.

The roadway from Martins to Rosend is also blocked in the community of Albany.

Floodwaters have also blocked the corridors from Port Maria to Islington and Fort George to Camberwell.

NWA Communication and Customer Services Manager Stephen Shaw is advising motorists to exercise caution in the vicinity of the Llanrumney Bridge leading to Highgate.

He says the river has overflowed its banks.

Over in Portland, the roadway from Balcarress to Wakefield is now impassable as a result of flooding and landslides.

Mr. Shaw says teams from the NWA are now working to get the roadways in the two parishes reopened.
