The body of the second man, who went missing while swimming at the Frenchman’s Cove Beach in Portland yesterday, washed ashore about 2:30 p.m.

The body has been identified as that of Gerald Thomas, 25, a mechanic who was employed to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company.

This morning, the body of the other man, Andre Mair, a database administrator was also recovered along the beach.

Both men were among a group of persons from Kingston, who visited the white sand beach, amidst choppy sea conditions made worse by high winds.

The Port Antonio police report that Thomas, Mair and two other members of the group - Ryan Scott, and Charles Beason swam beyond the boundary rope, which marked the safety zone for swimming.

The police said the men got into difficulties, but Beason managed to swim ashore, while Scott was pulled from the water by a lifeguard.

Scott was treated at the Port Antonio Hospital and released.

A search for the other two men conducted by teams from the Coast Guard and the Jamaica Defence Force had to be called off due to poor visibility and high winds.
