NWU has concerns about water delivery

The National Workers Union (NWU) is doubtful that the National Water Commission (NWC) will be able to truck water to communities islandwide.

The concern follows a decision by the Water and Housing Minister, Dr Horace Chang, to disband the operations of the Rapid Response Unit.

At least 100 workers are to be affected by the move.

NWU vice president, Granville Valentine, said the NWC has not shown the ability to meet the demand for water especially in some remote areas.

A meeting between the union and the permanent secretary in the Water Ministry has been set for Thursday to discuss the matter.

The union will be seeking to have the workers of the Rapid Response Unit transferred to other areas within the Water Ministry.
