Air J divestment expected month end
The team set up to deal with the divestment of Air Jamaica said it expects a final proposal by month end from the three airlines that have expressed an interest in buying the national entity.
The Government has been trying to divest the debt-ridden airline, which has reportedly been costing the country between US$10 to 15 million monthly.
Chairman of the Air Jamaica Privatisation Committee, Dennis Lalor, said two of the three entities have expressed added interest in taking over the national airline since it announced its new business plan.
Under that plan, the company has among other things downsized its routes from 15 to 8.
Mr. Lalor said he is confident that the deal will be finalised with one of the companies as they are all in a financial position to ensure the viability of Air Jamaica.
He said the deal could be completed before the March 31 divestment deadline.
