Principal calls on Gov’t to monitor carnival activities
Ardenne High School principal Esther Tyson has renewed her call for the government to more closely monitor carnival activities.
She is also calling for the government and other relevant agencies to remain vigilant in ensuring that children are protected from things that could be of negative influence.
Earlier this month, Mrs. Tyson wrote an article in the Gleaner Newspaper, lashing out against some dancehall artistes regarding the obscene language used in many of their songs.
Her article prompted much debate on the issue and also added pressure on the Broadcasting Commission to make a move.
On Friday, the media watchdog issued a ban on all music with explicit violent sexual lyrics not considered fit for airplay.
Mrs. Tyson said she’s satisfied with the Broadcasting Commission’s decision to ban lewd songs from the airwaves.
She also wants closer monitoring by the government of the music played on some buses.
Information Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange is to meet with stakeholders in the music industry tomorrow to discuss concerns about the impact of the negative lyrics on the society.
