The police said they have made a major dent in the guns for drug trade between Jamaica and Haiti following the seizure of 1,000 pounds of compressed ganja in Kingston last night.

The drug was seized during a raid by Operation Kingfish, the Narcotics Division and the Joint Task Force at Cleveland Road in East Kingston shortly after 9 p.m.

Spokesman for Operation Kingfish, Detective Sergeant Jubert Llewelyn, said the seizure has prevented the shipment of several hundred guns from entering the island.

Sergeant Llewelyn said no one was arrested in connection with the latest drug bust.

He said the police are following strong leads that could lead to several arrests.

Sergeant Llewelyn said 2,000 pounds of ganja and 15 and a half pounds of cocaine have been seized in Kingfish led operations since January.

In addition 18 illegal weapons have been recovered.

Eight were seized in Old Harbour, St. Catherine on Sunday night.

Sergeant Llewelyn said the seizure of guns and drugs have led to 19 arrests.

A man believed to be a major player in the trade was also arrested on Sunday night.

He’s scheduled to appear in the Gun Court on February 20.
