PM Golding to receive Spain honour

Prime Minister Bruce Golding and his wife Lorna are to be conferred with national honours from Spain.



Mr Golding is to be accorded the Great Cross of the Order of the Civil Merit of Spain when King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, arrive in Jamaica tomorrow for a two day visit.



Jamaica House said approval for Mr Golding to be incorporated into the Order was authorized by the Council of Ministers of Spain at its sitting on Friday.



In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, under the signature of Spanish Ambassador Jesus Silva, King Juan Carlos expressed appreciation for the meritorious service rendered by Mr Golding in the interest of the relations between Spain and Jamaica.



King Juan Carlos will also confer the Commander of Distinction on Mrs Golding.



The royal couple is scheduled to arrive in the island tomorrow afternoon and will be met at the Norman Manley International Airport by the Governor-General, Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, and other government officials.



Spain’s royal couple will then visit the Institute of Jamaica where they will be received by the Minister of Information and Culture Minister, Olivia Grange.



King Juan Carlos is also slated to address Parliament.



Later in the day the parties will sign bilateral agreements to be followed by a press conference at Jamaica House.
