The Police High Command is now investigating a report that a policemen allegedly threatened a journalist last weekend.

Assistant business editor at the Observer, Julian Richardson, said he was harassed early Saturday morning after he refused to honour a demand by two traffic cops to buy them refreshments.

Mr. Richardson said the policemen ordered him to pull over in Manor Park St. Andrew on Saturday morning.

He said they informed him that they would be charging him for obstructing traffic, an offence he said he was not guilty of.

According to Mr. Richardson, the policemen then offered to drop those charges if he bought them refreshments.

The journalist said he refused and told the cops that he would report the matter to their superiors when they threatened to kill him.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-Corruption, Justin Felice, said he has received a formal report and that the police are looking into the matter.

He said he advised the journalist on the precautions to be taken to ensure his safety.
