Dr Tufton said the government is pressing ahead with its election promise to increase the number of agricultural extension officers by 100 percent this fiscal year.
According to Dr Tufton, in a matter of weeks a second batch of officers will be commissioned, pushing to 74 the number of additions this year.
This will mean an increase in the public sector wage bill, which now stands at $111B. Dr Tufton said the move is proactive.
