Golding to lead CARICOM crisis agenda
Prime Minister Bruce Golding is to lead discussions on the effects of the global crisis at this week’s Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meeting in Belize.
Mr Golding leaves the island tomorrow for the 20th Inter-sessional meeting of the conference of CARICOM Heads of Government set for March 12-13.
The impact of the global economic crisis on the region tops the agenda for the meeting.
The CARICOM heads are expected to discuss the World Bank report projecting the US$700 billion shortfall for regional countries this year.
Ahead of the inter-sessional meeting, CARICOM heads will hold talks tomorrow on issues related to the governance of the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery.
Prime Minister Golding will be accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and foreign affairs and foreign trade minister, Dr Kenneth Baugh.
Senior officials of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Office of the Prime Minister will also attend the meeting in Belize.
On route from the CARICOM meeting Mr. Golding will go to Orlando, Florida, for talks with Tavistock International about the Harmony Cove Resort Development in Trelawny.
Labour minister, Pearnel Charles, will be in charge of the Government from March 11-13.
Dr Baugh, who will return after the CARICOM meeting, will take charge from March 14 until March 16 when Mr Golding comes back home.
