MAJ members disgruntled
There is growing discontent among members of the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) over the handling by the health ministry of the investigation into irregularities at the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew.
The Gleaner Power 106 News has learnt that an extraordinary meeting of the Association’s members has been called by the Council to discuss its dissatisfaction with the role of the president, Dr Rosemarie Wright-Pascoe in the investigation.
The meeting of the MAJ’s members has been scheduled for next week Wednesday when Dr. Wright-Pascoe will be brought before the body of doctors to explain her position on the investigating panel.
The investigations were conducted at the hospital last July.
The report has since been referred by the Solicitor General to the Medical Council of Jamaica for an enquiry.
The doctors argue that this should have been the first step in the investigation, which also involved a consultant cardiac surgeon at the hospital who was implicated.
In his findings, the Solicitor General said there was no breach of natural justice and no evidence of bias on the part of the investigating committee.
The solicitor general further advised that the health minister should submit the report to the Public Service Commission in order to determine whether there has been any breach of the staff order regulations.
A source told the Gleaner Power 106 News that a large number of MAJ members is of the view that the current president is no longer fit to serve.
The members are reportedly claiming that Dr. Wright-Pascoe failed to represent the association in ensuring that due process was followed in the investigation regarding their colleague.
