PNP call on Vaz to give up diplomatic passport

The People’s National Party is demanding that the JLP’s Daryl Vaz gives up his diplomatic passport.



Two days ago Mr Vaz displayed his diplomatic and regular passports with United States visas, in a bid to quell rumours that he was a green card holder.



He said he would not have been granted a US visa if he had a green card.



Mr. Vaz gave up his US citizenship last year after he lost a court battle to remain in Parliament as an MP.



The matter was appealed and the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling last month.



However, the PNP says pictures of Mr Daryl Vaz with a diplomatic passport indicate that he believes he should enjoy the privileges of a Government minister, while contesting the West Portland by-election.



The PNP is insisting that Mr Vaz should have no access to public resources or decisions regarding the use and deployment of public resources because he is no longer a Member of Parliament.
