Jamaican consumers more alert

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) is reporting that consumers have been benefiting from its publication of the prices of food items sold by retailers.

The publication which falls under the consumers alert programme was initiated by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Investment in December last year.

It includes a bi-monthly publication of the lowest and the highest prices of 10 basic food items and where they are sold.

The chief executive officer of the CAC, Dolsie Allen, says since the publication, some retailers have reduced their prices while others are offering discounts.

Despite loyalties to certain brands, shoppers are making use of the CAC consumer survey information, she added.
