Published:Tuesday | March 17, 2009 | 12:45 PM

Fire officials are yet to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed the Martha’s House Children’s Home in central Kingston, about 8 o’ clock last night.

The home, which is operated by the Mustard Seed Community, provided shelter to about 30 children.

Alleged eyewitnesses said they saw fire on an electrical power line that ran from the home.

However, Superintendent Lansford Williams of the Kingston and St. Andrew Fire Department said a team from the Fire Prevention Division will be conducting further checks in an effort to ascertain the actual source of the blaze.

Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles said the ministry has provided blankets, mattresses and other supplies to the residents of Martha’s House.

The children are now staying at other homes operated by the Mustard Seed Community.
