Issa blasts PNP and JLP

Published:Tuesday | March 17, 2009 | 5:25 PM

Superclub’s boss John Issa is accusing the former PNP and the current JLP administrations of hoarding over $750 million which should have been used to enhance the country’s tourism product.

Mr. Issa says the money, collected over a period and earmarked for the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), is yet to be paid over to the TEF’ s coffers.

He says each tourist coming in to the island is required to pay US$10 while each cruise passenger pays US$2.

NO COLLECTIONS

Mr. Issa says the Port Authority and the cruise lines have bypassed the law and have not collected the US$2 dollars from stop over visitors.

An official from the tourism ministry has confirmed that the cruise lines have not been paying over money collected from passengers, while airlines have been paying over the US$10 charge.
