Strong detachments of security personnel are in West Portland for the by-election.

The commanding officer for Portland, Superintendent Dudley Scott, said there have been a few cases of possible intimidation by supporters of both major political parties.

He said those matters are being dealt with.

Superintendent Scott said the police and military are continuing patrols in hot spot areas.

He said they are also increasing their presence in some sections of the constituency.
