Candidates pleased with election proceedings
The candidates in today’s by-election say they are pleased with the voting proceedings.
The JLP’s candidate Daryl Vaz described the atmosphere as festive and says he’s certain of a return to Gordon House with a 1,000 vote margin.
The PNP’s candidate Kenneth Rowe said the by-election was primarily one of friendly rivalry.
He also pointed to what he described as undesirable behaviour by some persons from outside the constituency.
Independent candidate Astor Black said he mainly sought to uplift the lives of Jamaicans through his candidacy.
Up to a short while ago both the PNP and the JLP were still tabulating their chances at the polls based on the number of their supporters who the believed voted.
PNP deputy general secretary Julian Robinson said its still to early to call a winner.
James Robertson, the JLP deputy leader in charge of Area Council Two, which includes Portland, says he is encouraged by the turnout of party supporters.
