Security ministry considers conditional release programme
The Ministry of National Security said it’s considering the re-introduction of the conditional release programme for prisoners.
The programme was suspended several years ago because of security concerns.
The system would see some inmates being discharged from jail early on the basis of good behaviour.
Those who have committed minor offences or who have unjustly served long sentences would also be eligible for early release.

State Minister in the National Security Ministry Senator Arthur Williams said the move will also form part of the Department of Correctional Service’s population reduction strategy.
He said more prisoners will shortly be sent on the roads to do clean up work.
Last week, a team of prisoners visited two St. Catherine communities and carried out bushing activities under the Inmates’ Work Programme.
