Injured cops update
One policeman is now battling for life in hospital while two others are in stable condition following a shoot-out with a gunman in St Andrew this morning.
The gunman Andrew Senior, who was one of Jamaica’s most-wanted, was eventually killed by the police.
The incident happened in the quiet residential community of Westminster Crescent off Red Hills Road at the home and studio of entertainer Luciano.
The gunman launched the attack just at day break some time after 5 a.m. and would continue for more than an hour.
The Assistant Police Commissioner in Charge of Area 5, Leon Rose, said the gunman, Andrew ‘Conqueror’ Senior eluded the cops for years.
He is from Central Village St Catherine but lived in Kingston and often went to St Elizabeth on hideouts.
The police knew all this and had been hot on Senior’s trail but never managed to conquer in their quest to nab him.
ACP Rose said early this morning the police got information that he was at the Westminster Crescent home and studio of Luciano.
He said a team from the St Andrew North Police entered the premises and was fired on by a very heavily armed Senior.
During the stand-off one policeman was shot in his face he is the most seriously injured.
The second was shot in his groin and the third in one of his legs.
The cops finally managed to move in on Senior after they received back up from their colleagues and members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
One policeman, who was on the team said at one point during the stand off the gunman shouted that he was determined to kill some of the cops.
ACP Rose said the police have since detained Luciano and several other persons whom they say are of interest in their investigation.
According to the Assistant Commissioner, it is too early to say whether Luciano will be charged for harbouring a criminal.
