JLP prepares for NE St Catherine

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will begin this Sunday to prepare for the expected heightened political activity in North East Catherine.

The party will be taking its Area Council Two meeting to the constituency, which is now held by the JLP’s Gregory Mair.

Mr Mair is one of three MP’s with dual citizenship with cases now before the courts.

The cases are due to be called up later this year.

Based on the court ruling involving the JLP’s Daryl Vaz it is expected that there may be a by-election in Mr Mair’s North East St Catherine constituency.

Following Mr Vaz’s win in the West Portland on Monday, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the party expects other by-elections in three other constituencies.

They are North East St Catherine, North East St Ann held by the JLP’s Shahine Robinson and North West Clarendon held by Michael Stern.

Mr Golding will be among the party heavyweights in North East St Catherine on Sunday, for the meeting which the JLP has described as critical.

The West Portland by-election was called after the court found that Mr Vaz was an American at the time of his nomination in 2007.
