JA’s athletes fail at indoor meet
Jamaican athletes last night failed to secure a victory in the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) Indoor Permit Meeting in Athens, Greece.
Maurice Wignall was second in the men’s 60-metre hurdles in 7.65 seconds, splitting Britons Allan Scott 7.61 and Andy Turner 7.72. Another Jamaican, Richard Phillips was fourth in 7.76
Lacena Golding Clarke was edged out by American Damu Cherry for the top spot.
Cherry, who had served a two year doping suspension, finished in 7.94 seconds ahead of Golding Clarke’s 7.98 seconds.
In the men’s 400 metres, Jamaica’s Edino Steele trailed home Dominica’s Chris Lloyd, in 46.88 seconds who won by fast 46.30 seconds.
James Beckford had to settle for sixth at 7.76 metre in the men’s long jump, won by Panama’s Irving Saladino, who cleared 8.42 metres.
Jamaica’s Clora Williams was fourth in the women’s 400 metres in 53.94 seconds.
