A police constable is in custody at the Castle police station, in Portland after being nabbed for breaches of the anti-corruption act during a sting operation yesterday.

Constable, Calvin Beckford, of the Port Antonio police has been accused of accepting a bribe from a motorist in Port Antonio.

According to the police, the Constable, who is attached to the traffic department, stopped a motorist on Friday, and seized his car documents.

It is alleged that he demanded $15,000 to release the documents.

The police said an arrangement was made for $10,000 to be paid to Constable Beckford, but the motorist secretly reported him.

A sting operation was set up and the police was given marked banknotes.

The Constable was accosted and searched yesterday, but no money was found on him.

However, a search of his vehicle revealed the marked notes.

He was subsequently arrested and charged for breaches of the anti-corruption act.
