CG2022 | Mixed results for Jamaica in badminton
Jamaica had mixed results on the badminton courts on Wednesday in action at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Joel Angus, playing in the men’s singles round of 64, lost 2-0 to Mauritius’ Alexandre Jean Bernard Bongout in straight sets, 9-21, 12-21.
However, Angus' teammate, Samuel Ricketts, playing in the same round, had no such trouble, staving off the challenge of Australia’s Jacob Schueller, 21-19, 21-15.
In women’s singles, Jamaica’s Katherine Wynter suffered a 2-0 defeat, going down 21-7, 21-4 to Singapore’s Khan Insyirah.
The pair of Angus and Wynter also registered a victory in mixed doubles action against Barbados’ Maarten Kennie and Tamisha Williams.
Angus and Wynter won 21-12 and 21-19 to advance 2-0 to the round of 32.
