STATHS cruise to 4-0 win over Clan Carthy
LAST season’s beaten ISSA/Manning Cup finalists St Andrew Technical continued their fine 2023 form and remain unbeaten after seven games following a 4-0 victory over Zone D opponents Clan Carthy High at the Boys’ Town football field yesterday.
St Andrew Technical, who started the opening 25 minutes looking out of sorts, came into their own in the 30th minute as Jhamal Bygrave, who was left unmarked as the far post, found room between two defenders to tap home from close range to give his team a 1-0 lead.
That lead would be doubled in the 50th minute as Jloyd Smith rose the highest from a corner kick and buried his effort. That sustained pressure would pay more dividends four minutes later as Andre Salmon quickly ran on to a pass which was lobbed over the top of the Clan Carthy defenders to score and give the Phillip Williams-coached team a 3-0 lead. Sunken heads from the Clan Carthy team made matters worse as in the 73rd minute a lapse in concentration by Clan Carthy defender D’Angelo McCaw resulted in an own goal and handed St Andrew Technical a 4-0 victory.
Despite the victory, Williams stated that he wasn’t entirely pleased with the performance of his players on the day.
“Our objective was to gather all three points, the boys did that but the way in which they did it wasn’t pleasing to us (coaches). We were flat but it’s expected as this was our seventh game and we just did enough to win,” Williams said.
The St Andrew Technical coach was, however, happy with the fact that his team scored four goals without conceding.
“We had another clean sheet but we have to go back to the drawing board and see how best we can get these guys more motivated,” he added.
Nallawe Blake, head coach of Clan Carthy, said his players lost concentration in the last 20 to 30 minutes and made a lot of mistakes which cost them the game.
“Disappointed that we didn’t score as you always want to score against teams that are atop the table but I think my players did well and I can’t bash them for losing against a pretty good team,” coach Blake said.
