Fallout looms from pension dilemma

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was so disheartened to have read the important article in Tuesday's (April 10, 2018) edition of The Gleaner under the heading 'Pension crisis'.
It revealed that according to the Financial Services Commission, only a handful of the Jamaican population contribute to a pension plan. In addition to this serious problem, a senior director of the National Insurance Fund has said that fewer than 50 per cent of the workforce was contributing to the scheme alone.
I can recall the then minister of labour, Pearnel Charles Sr, advising Jamaicans who do overseas farm work to strongly consider making arrangements for their future via a pension plan. I wonder how many have taken up the good advice.
