Dr Jennifer Mamby-Alexander

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I would like to share a moment of celebration in which I participated last weekend.

The St Andrew Business and Professional Women's Club had its Founder's Day Awards Luncheon and International Candle Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, June 23 at The Alhambra Inn and Restaurant.

The 2018 Mavis Watts Outstanding Woman's Award was given to Dr Jennifer Mamby-Alexander in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the lives and status of women and men nationwide, exemplifying the leadership and dedication by Dr Lena Madesin Phillips, the founder of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women.

It was based on Dr Mamby Alexander's own experience of breast cancer and her quest to help women and men in Jamaica, the Caribbean and even as far as Nigeria. Dr Mamby-Alexander embarked with passion on a life mission to influence attitudes to cancer and to make a difference in the perspectives and lives of persons afflicted by the disease.

In the madness of today's world, this is indeed a moment for Jamaica to celebrate.
