PEP to dismal
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Are we training the best people to prepare our kids for PEP?
I have been hearing about PEP (Primary Exit Profile) from the time my daughter was in grade 4 - and even thought she would have taken it when she got to grade 6, She is now in grade 9, and so I am very surprised when I hear teachers say they don't have enough time to prepare the students.
The real test is to have the teachers sit the exact exam at the same time the children are made to do the mock and the final exams. The ministry should probably consider making it mandatory for all teachers to take the exams that they are preparing their students for.
I really want to know:
Is it that the weakest of our high school graduates (persons who only just made the requirements) settle with teaching as their choice of study?
Are teachers in the system competent enough to give us the results we are craving for?
Mediocre teachers can only produce mediocre results.
