Mourinho had to go!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

News broke on Tuesday, December 18, of the sacking of Jose Mourinho. It couldn't have come a moment earlier. In fact, even though Mourinho wanted to coach Manchester United, he should never have landed the job. The board was at fault.

We all know how a Mourinho team plays, and that is not the Man U style. Now 19 points off first place and 11 points off fourth, the board decided to act. The Red Devils had conceded 29 goals after Match Day 17 and allowed Liverpool 36 shots on goal. That was the game that determined Mourinho's fate.

£89-million Signing

He had an £89-million signing trembling from cold on the bench while Xherdan Shaqiri, a £13m signing from Stoke, scored two goals. Poor Cardiff were walloped 1-5 at home. The guys expressed themselves freely and outran their opponents. The old Manchester United!

Teams like Brighton, Huddersfield and Bournemouth would have been happy to have Pogba, Martial and Rashford, but the morose Mourinho was never happy; he always wanted more.

I have listened to two press conferences given by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. They were a joy to listen to. They were convivial. You wonder if he was talking about the same team that Mourinho had. It was all about the players not him. Mourinho just had to go and I hope he doesn't return to the Premier League anytime soon!
