Does the JPS not have a service charter?

Published:Thursday | October 20, 2022 | 12:07 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am writing on behalf of seven households in Rocky Hill road, Gibraltar, St Mary. We have been either without power or are experiencing constant low voltage since October 2. On that day we had heavy rains, which led to power outages.

Since then our power has been blinking on and off with low voltages constantly. Only a few areas in each household have power.

Repeated calls by (members of ) each household and reports via the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) app have not helped in any way. In fact, the app does not allow us to report the same outage any more.

And after repeated calls to JPS, we are informed that they are aware of the problem, but are unable to say when a technician will be dispatched! We have heard this now for two whole weeks!

We are all still either without power or suffering low voltage.

Is it normal that we are required to wait more than 16 days for restoration of services? (And) With no information as to whether services will be restored this year? There is no follow-up, and no assistance. Does the JPS not have a service charter?

How do we as paying customers request a reduction in our rates for the remainder of this month?

It seems as though as customers in Jamaica we have no recourse, and must accept and pay for non-service. Despite this, you can be sure that our bills will be on time and up to date.

HOPELESS,

St Mary
