Retain Nicholas Pooran as captain

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I believe in Nicholas Pooran and his capabilities. If the West Indies were to sack him, then what options are there? Appoint another captain and when he performs poorly, cuss and sack him, too? Lack of form is temporary, but class is permanent. Pooran wouldn’t have got the captaincy in the first place if he wasn’t good enough. Under his belt, he has series victories against the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Australia, and Sri Lanka.

Pooran must channel his fortitude to withstand the heat and turn around his performance and West Indies cricket’s fortune. Captaincy for the Red Force to defend this upcoming Super50 would do him wonders. Support from his countrymen and confidence in a familiar set-up is an ideal reset button.

It’s up to him to manage his workload and ensure that he is fit. Nicholas Pooran should be Nicholas Pooran, not Clive Lloyd, Richie Richardson, or Darren Sammy. West Indies are a team, it’s not a one-man show. I am appealing to the administrators of Cricket West Indies to have faith in this group of players, and the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran – they will click.
