UPDATED: Professor Dale Webber appointed UWI principal

Professor Dale Webber has been appointed principal of the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Gleaner sources say Webber's appointment will take effect on October 1.

He will succeed Professor Archibald McDonald who is retiring.

It is understood the Professor Densil Williams, former head of the Mona School of Business, was also being considered for the post of principal.

Professor Webber is Pro-Vice Chancellor, Graduate Studies and Research.
