St Elizabeth farmers allegedly held with $48M worth of ganja charged

The police yesterday charged the three men who were arrested last Sunday in Parotee, St Elizabeth after they were allegedly held with approximately 1,200 pounds of compressed ganja which has an estimated street value of $48,000,000.

Thirty-four-year-old Neville Brooks, 27-year-old Malcolm Foster and 38-year-old Omar Brown, all farmers from Slipe district in the parish, are charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps preparatory to export ganja, use of conveyance and conspiracy.

They are to appear before the St. Elizabeth Parish Court on Monday.

The police had reported that a team from the Narcotics Division was conducting operations in the area when they saw the men unloading several knitted bags from a Toyota Hiace bus.

On approach of the police, the men reportedly ran but were chased and accosted.

According to the police, the bus was searched and 24 knitted bags containing 121 packages of ganja were found and seized.

The bus, a Honda CRV and a Toyota Altis motorcar were also seized.
