Owen Speid wins JTA presidential election
Rousseau Primary School principal Owen Speid has won the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) presidential election.
The St Andrew-based headmaster will serve as president-elect for 2018-19, that's one year before he becomes president.
He will be officially proclaimed at the opening of the JTA’s Annual Conference to be held in Montego Bay, St James in August.
At the same time, Church Teachers' College principal Garth Anderson will be sworn in as JTA president for 2018-19.
In the just concluded presidential elections, Speid received 4,003 votes to beat three other contenders.

Wayne Mullings, Principal, Louise Bennett Coverly All Age, St. Andrew - 2,258
David Powell, Acting Principal, Porus High, Manchester - 1,836
A total of 12,763 votes were cast.
