Jamaica’s resort town of Ocho Rios in St Ann will be twinned with the northern Polish town of Ostroda in a ceremony in that European country today Friday, July 6.
A five-member delegation from the St Ann Municipal Corporation, headed by Mayor Michael Belnavis, left Jamaica Wednesday night for Poland to represent the country at the signing ceremony in Ostroda, a town considered a growing tourist site.
The signing will also involve head of the diplomatic mission from the Polish Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, Mrs Milena Lukasiewics, and Councillors of the City of Ostroda.
The twinning of the towns will lead to exchanges in matters relating to tourism, culture and sports and the exchanging of representatives of local government and the adoption of best practices at that level.
While there, the Jamaican delegation is also expected to visit the Ostroda Reggae Festival set for July 5 to 8.
The delegation comprises Mayor Belnavis, Councillors Ian Bell, Genevor- Gordon Bailey and Kim Brown-Lawrence, along with acting Chief Executive officer of the Corporation, Rovel Morris.
They will return to the island on July 11.
