Avoid Griffin Gully Bridge, NWA warns operators of large vehicles
The National Works Agency (NWA) is warning motorists that a section of the Papine to Redlight main road in St Andrew has been restricted to small vehicles only.
The restriction will be in place for fourteen days and is to facilitate the construction of an improved box culvert.
As a result, the NWA is appealing to operators of large vehicles to avoid the Griffin Gully Bridge, located along the corridor.
“Operators of large vehicles, including heavy and haulage equipment, should not attempt to pass the bridge,” acting Manager, Communication and Customer Service at the NWA Ramona Lawson said in a statement yesterday.
She explained that the bridge may be compromised if large vehicles are allowed to use it before the concrete used in the construction is allowed to cure.
The NWA says the box culvert at Griffin Gully is being reconstructed with a wider span to adequately accommodate the passage of large vehicles.
The project, which is being funded through the Tourism Enhancement Fund at a cost of $16 million, is also aimed at improving drainage in the area.
