The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is reporting that all customers impacted by the outage caused by the problem on its network this morning have been restored.

The JPS further explains that any customers who may still be without power at this time, this may be an isolated case.

These persons are asked to report the matter to the utility company.

JPS has not explained the cause of the outage, which affected customers in Kingston, St Andrew and St Thomas.

This morning, the light and power company said that efforts to restore supply were impacted by the fact that a number of employees have not reported for their regular shifts.

At the same time, it announced that the company had activated its contingency plans in order to minimise disruption in service to customers in the event of any escalation in industrial action by employees.

JPS said this follows a breakdown in talks at the Ministry of Labour yesterday between the company & representatives of the Union of Clerical Administrative & Supervisory Employees.

The parties, who have been at odds over longstanding wages and benefits negotiations, are to meet today at the Industrial Dispute Tribunal.

The JPS said there is no connection between the power outage and the current industrial unrest.
