Road deaths trending downwards in recent weeks
There has been a sharp decline in the number of persons killed on the roads in recent weeks.
Since the start of this week five persons have died in motor vehicle crashes, figures from the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) have revealed.
Three of those deaths reportedly occurred on Thursday.
For the previous week, the NRSC figures show that motor vehicle crashes resulted in 12 deaths.
Last month, 44 persons died on the nation’s roadways, the highest figures recorded for a single month since the start of the year.
There were 36 road deaths in January, 38 in February and 35 in March.
Since the start of the year 167 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes, an increase of 28 per cent when compared to the corresponding period last year.
