Man charged for stabbing brother granted $200,000 bail
Bail in the sum of $250,000 with surety has been granted to 50-year-old St Andrew plumber Steve Coote, who is accused of wounding his 55-year-old brother.
He is to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on December 9.
Allegations are that on April 29 this year the accused and his brother had a dispute at their home in Waterhouse, St Andrew.
The complaint walked towards the kitchen and the accused walked up behind him and reportedly stabbed him in the left side of his body.
The complainant was taken to hospital where he was admitted.
Attorney-at-law Courtney Foster, in making the bail application last week, submitted that Coote was not a flight risk.
She pointed out that Coote went to the police station and made a report shortly after the incident.
She also told the judge that Coote had no previous conviction and self defence was a live issue in the matter.
The judge, in granting bail, ordered that Coote should not reside at his present address and is to report to the police twice weekly.
A stop order has been enforced and Coote is to surrender his travel documents.
