St Mary recorded its first murder for the year following the shooting death of a woman at her home at Broadgate in the parish on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Jody Buchanan, a security guard of Broadgate, Annotto Bay in the parish.

According to the police, Buchanan was at home in bed about 11:40 p.m. when a lone gunman allegedly kicked open her bedroom door and opened gunfire at her.

The police were summoned and, upon their arrival, the deceased was seen lying on her back on a bed with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to her upper body.

She was later pronounced dead by a doctor.

Two spent casings were recovered from the scene by investigators.
