JLP projected to win in St Thomas, Clarendon
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is projected to take control of the St Thomas Municipal Corporation following the final count of ballots in the Llandewey Division, which was tied in the preliminary count.
The JLP's Andrea Patience has polled 1,316 votes based on the final count today, compared with the 1,309 votes received by Edwin Marr of the People's National Party (PNP).
If there is no change in the other divisions, the JLP will hold 6 of the 10 divisions in St Thomas and be able to select the new mayor of Morant Bay.
The incumbent is the PNP's representative in the White Horses Division, Hubert Williams. Williams retained the division, based on the preliminary count.
In the meantime, the tie in Clarendon appears to have been broken with the JLP winning the Aenon Town Division.
Its representative, Marjorie McLeod-McFarlane, received 1,403 votes, while the PNP's, Delroy Dawson, received 1,311 votes.
Based on that result, the JLP is now projected to win 12 divisions, while the PNP will have 10.
The JLP won 13 of the divisions in the 2016 Local Government Elections.
