Alleged St Catherine bus thief remanded
An alleged bus thief, who is suspected to be a part of a vehicle-stealing ring, was today remanded when he appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court.
Charged with larceny of a motor vehicle is 32-year-old Romario Oliver of Frenchman Heights in the parish.
When Oliver appeared before Senior Parish Judge Desiree Alleyne, the police were advised to ensure he got medical attention.
Attorney-at-Law Kerry-Ann Wilson told the court that it was a case of mistaken identity against her client, arguing that he was jogging when he was pounced upon.
The Clerk of Courts told the judge that the accused is suspected to be part of a motor vehicle-stealing ring.
Allegations are that on March 4 the complainant parked his Toyota Coaster bus at his home in Eltham Park, Spanish Town and retired to bed.
About 3:30 a.m. the following morning, the complainant received an alert on his phone that his vehicle was on the move.
The complainant started to track the vehicle, which took him to Frenchman Heights, near Kitson Town.
When the vehicle was intercepted, the accused reportedly attempted to jump from the bus.
He was held.
Oliver reportedly brandished a knife but was held by residents.
Oliver was rescued by the police.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
