Businessman accused of raping ex-girlfriend granted bail

A St Catherine car dealer accused of abducting and raping his former girlfriend has been granted bail.

The accused is Davian Smythe, 27-year-old, of Portmore, St Catherine. 

Smythe is charged with forcible abduction, unlawful detention, rape, grievous sexual assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, simple larceny and common assault.

Attorney-at-law, Dirk  Harrison, made a successful application when the matter was mentioned on Tuesday.

Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne granted bail on condition that Smythe reports to the Portmore  Police Station twice weekly, surrender his travel documents and makes no contact with the complainant.

He is to reappear in court on July 9 when the matter will again be mentioned.

It is alleged that the accused assaulted the complainant and stole several items from her in February.

The matter was reported to the Waterford police and following an investigation Smythe was arrested and  subsequently charged.
