Man who stabbed brother at St Catherine courthouse pleads guilty, psychiatric evaluation ordered
A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for a St Catherine man who pleaded guilty today to repeatedly stabbing his brother on the grounds of the parish court on Tuesday.
Durran Rose pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and was remanded by Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle for sentencing on May 2.
The judge also ordered a social enquiry report and directed that Rose be transferred to the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre in the interim.
The facts of the case are that around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Rose attacked his brother near the entrance of Court Number One at the St Catherine Parish Court.
An irate Rose used a piece of broken bottle to stab his brother repeatedly in the face.
The attack occurred while both men were waiting to return to court following a mediation session regarding a case in which Rose was reportedly injured by his brother.
Police rushed to the scene and apprehended Rose before he could escape.
First aid was administered to his brother, while Rose was taken to the Spanish Town police lock-up.
