22-year-old sentenced to life for fatal stabbing at Lakes Pen construction site

A 22-year-old man who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a co-worker at a construction site in Lakes Pen, St Catherine, was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court.
Kishma Haughton was ordered by Justice Yvonne Brown to serve 15 years before being eligible for parole.
Haughton was charged with the murder of 22-year-old Rayan Mendez of Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Facts are that on October 22, 2023, Haughton and Mendez were involved in a fight at the work site.
Sometime after the altercation, during a lunch break, Haughton stabbed Mendez.
Mendez was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Haughton was arrested by detectives from the Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch and was subsequently charged with murder.
